• 3-D Blu-ray Specification Announced

    The Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) has settled on a final specification for 3D Blu-ray. Highlights include:

    • Full 1080p resolution to each eye.
    • Can deliver to any compatible 3D display (LDC, Plasma, etc) and is not limited to any particular 3D technology.
    • Fully backwards-compatible with 2D Blu-ray discs.
    • Uses the Multiview Video Coding (MVC) codec, an extension of the H.264 codec.
    • Supports enhanced 3D graphic features such as 3D menus, subtitles, etc.

    3D televisions and Blu-ray discs are expected to make inroads into the home theatre market during 2010. We'll keep you posted on any major developments.
