    streaming video

    Hello,

I read your guide to using streaming video on a webpage. I used the embedded style. Everything previews in the browser in FrontPage just fine, but after publishing it, the webpage video doesn't work. I can see the Windows Media Player, and the controls, but the video won't play. I'm very new to web pages and any help would be greatly appreciated!!

    Thanks!

    Mary

    Here is the url http://stormwatcher.us/Dancing%20Baby.htm

The site is very raw right now...I'm learning as I go.

    Thanks for your time,

Mary, the first thing to do is remove the space from your file name, i.e. change
    video/dancing baby.wmv
    to
    video/dancing_baby.wmv or video/dancingbaby.wmv.

Let us know how you get on after that.

    Hello again,

I made the change. Same thing. It previews in the browser in FrontPage fine, but won't play on my website.

Thank you again for trying to help!

Just wanted to say thanks for your time with this. I figured it out. The "d" and "b" in the filename was supposed to be "D" and "B".

I have removed all objects around me that I could throw at the monitor.

Aha, glad to see that you've figured it out.

The lesson from this story: On Windows computers, file names are not case-sensitive. On *nix systems they are, so FileName.wmv and filename.wmv are considered two different files.

My advice: For Internet file names, always use all lower-case letters. Once you get used to it, it's much easier and there's never any confusion. Also, never use spaces or special characters.

Lower-case letters, numbers, hyphens and underscores only.

    Have fun with your site
