cable hookup to effects pedal, amp, rack

    Hi Everyone

I have spent some money on a compressor, noise gate, sound processor, drum module various effects pedals and a 100 watt Marshall Head Amplifier.
I now want to purchase cables to connect everything together.

Q1. Are shielded cables the same as balanced cables?
Q2. Should i use shielded cables/balanced cables between my effects
    pedals and amplifier
Q3. The manual for my DBX compressor(balanced input/output)
gets confusing as to the cables connecting to it. If i want to
connect it to another balanced source do i use shielded/balanced
cables? and connecting to my DBX compressor from an unbalanced
source what kind of cables should i use?

I had know idea hooking up this stuff would become so confusing!

    thanks for the help

    Hi ya whitenoise,
Q1 ans: Shielded cables just refers to the type of cable it is. An unbalanced cable can be shielded also.
Q2 ans: It's recommended & good practice to always use balanced cables where applicable, this also applies to Q3. I'd say about 99.9% of the time, balanced cables will be shielded
Q3 ans: Shielded unbalanced would be better to give you piece of mind (not that it's a psychological thing.... ).
