Google appears to have a new advertising format in development - video ads. I've seen a couple of examples but they have been temporary so I can't yet show you anything. There's nothing about it at the Google site either so I guess it's in the very early stages.

What I like about their ads is that you have to click "Play" before the ad starts. This is a vast improvement over most other video ads which hog bandwidth and hit you with sound and vision even if you have no interest. I've already abandoned several news sites because I'm sick of having to load a video clip just to look at a text story (ridiculous waste of data transfer).

Forcing video on web users is bad, giving them the choice to watch a video ad is very good.
