    Streaming Question?

    I am having a hard time checking that this test page is actually streaming.

    I have checked it on several computers from different locations. But it seems that quicktime will just download the whole file and does not stream.

    http://www.okcgrace.com/test.html

    The code that I am using...

    <html>

    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html;charset=iso-8859-1">
    <title>Grace Covenant Church -- High Speed Internet Video</title>
    </head>

    <body>
    <div align="left">

    <p align="center"><b>Sample Streaming Feed</b><object classid="clsid:02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B" codebase="http://www.apple.com/qtactivex/qtplugin.cab" height="100%" width="100%" name="Grace Covenant Church">
    <param name="scale" value="aspect">
    <param name="palette" value="background">
    <param name="enablejavascript" value="true">
    <param name="kioskmode" value="true">
    <param name="src" value="http://www.okcgrace.com/quicktime/4-02-2006.mov">
    <param name="autoplay" value="true">
    <param name="controller" value="true">
    <embed height="100%" width="100%" scale="aspect" palette="background" enablejavascript="true" kioskmode="true" src="http://www.okcgrace.com/quicktime/4-02-2006.mov" autoplay="true" controller="true">
    </embed> <embed height="100%" name="Grace Covenant Church" palette="background" pluginspage="http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/" src="http://www.okcgrace.com/quicktime/4-02-2006.mov" type="video/quicktime" width="100%" controller="true" autoplay="true" kioskmode="true" enablejavascript="true" scale="aspect">
    </object> </p>
    </div>
    </body>

    </html>

    Any ideas.

    Re: Streaming Question?

    HI !

    By the look of your HTML there is no problems with what you are doing, only thing is, the problem looks like where you are doing it from.

    For streaming to work your server (host) my be set to allow at the minimum HTTP streaming. otherwise for QUICKTIME streaming to work, you will need a streaming server application on your host.

    There is another way (possibly) try re-coding the movie file from quicktime to WMV then change the extension to ASF, I have has that stream in media player from the my websites (works for audio).

    For More information on QT streaming see: http://catalyst.washington.edu/how-t...streaming.html

    But Hey! Don't take my word for it!

    Re: Streaming Question?

    I have another question, I called and asked my hosting company about this. They told be that the video would have to be in a quick time format saved as a .qt for it to stream.

    A .qt what is that I have never heard of it. And second I thought the .mov was a quicktime format. I am not sure what the hosting was talking about.

    Re: Streaming Question?

    Hi

    Why not encode your video to .flv format. (flash video format). Programs readilly available on the web. Then small amount of html to call up Flash Player.

    I tried your link and it took several minutes to show the video. I am on an 8Mbs connection.

    Have a look at this one.

    Re: Streaming Question?

    .qt is an earlier Quicktime file type. I believe it is deprecated in favour of .mov but I don't know the details. I find it hard to believe that your problem will be fixed by changing from .mov to .qt but I suppose it could be worth a try - just change the extension and see what happens.

    If there's any chance of testing it on a different host, that would be my recommendation. Is there anyone in your congregation who has their own website which you could use for testing? If you could put exactly the same page and file on another server, that might tell you if it's a server problem or a file problem.

    BTW, I can't actually see your website - I get an error: "Cannot find server or DNS Error - www.okcgrace.com cannot be found".

    Re: Streaming Question?

    The orginal post was posted last week, then we got an email saying that they are going to be moving us to a new server so it should be back up by now.

    I have posted the new url with the .qt
    http://www.okcgrace.com/testqt.html

    It seems to download alot quicker. But it seems that it is doing the same thing about not streaming just downloading. I may be doing some code wrong but not sure.

    Stay Tuned...

    It has been a bad week for servers. The new server crashed completly. I will send a post when it gets back up and running. You know how it goes when the crap hits then fan...

    It will be back up soon, we have everything backed up but the hosting company is waiting on some type of part to fix it.

    It is a hurry up and wait.

    Sorry for the mixup,
