Flash Pro 8 FLV to Flash 7 export

Simple question: with Flash Professional 8, if I customize and re-skin one of their FLV components, can I publish and export that to play in Flash 7?

Or is it strictly for Flash 8?

I have searched Adobe's site etc for too long and can't find the answer.

    Thank you.

I'm working from memory here, and sadly my memory ain't what it used to be.

I believe some FLV components are compatible with version 7 but you'll find that most video-related features of Flash 8 require version 8. In particular the On2 VP6 codec requires version 8.

When I first got Flash 8 I tried experimenting with a v7-compatible player but gave up because it was too limiting. I think you'll probably be better off just targetting v8 if possible. If it's any consolation, I've found that most visitors to my sites now have at least v8 installed.

    Dave,

Thanks for the reply. This would be for a large-scale public site. They want to use one of the FLV player components in Flash 8, but serve up the content for Flash 7.

My intuition is that Flash 8 components are probably intended mostly for the Flash 8 plug-in.

I think you're right. Anyway, the best way to know for sure is to create the file you want in Flash 8 and then try to publish it as a Flash 7 file. It will tell you if you're using an incompatible component.
