    saving GIF files in Photoshop

I'm tyring to save a file as a GIF w/ transparent background for use on my website. Photoshop, however, is not providing me GIF as a selection when I go to save as. Why?

Assuming you are using Photoshop CS2

Click File -> Save for web. A save for web optimization screen will then be displayed for you to choose what level of optimized images you wish to choose. I always choose optimized.

On the right hand side - you will see a drop down box with the name of Preset: Select GIF 128 Dithered. It should then allow to you to save .gif files.

This preset if set to .jpg come in handy for slicing up the image to save as a web page and images. If set to .jpg it will not usually allow you to save as a .gif.

    hope this works for you.
