In less-than-stunning news, Adobe has announced the end of the road for Freehand. The vector graphics program championed by Macromedia will no longer be supported or updated. Adobe is apparently offering upgrades to Illustrator CS3 for around 1/3 of the retail price.

John Nack, senior product manager for Adobes Photoshop software, has a blog entry about it:

As sad as it is, I think it's the best move. It would be absurd for Adobe to keep developing two products for the same market. Better that they consolidate their best features and staff into making one of them the best it can be.
