Transparent background on graphite pencil foreground

    Question:

How do I make the entire white background of a drawing that I made in graphite pencil transparent? I've tried a lot of different things--magic wand, matte, extract. None seem to work because of the extremely small spaces of white you get between graphite lines. Please help..

    make a matte for it.

make anoter layer, then wand it......this will take for ever.....then put it behind the original......merge layers.....then key it out....
