    I'm looking into ways to do it using diodes etc, but until then maybe you could consider a seperate speaker like this one. I firmly believe the best way is to have a speaker dedicated to the VHF radio.
    This will help with audio levels as well - your stereo may be louder than the output of your VHF radio, so you wouldn't hear the radio when someone called.

    This type of speaker is designed for CB radios and must surely fit somewhere in your boat......
