    Newbie question about quality.

    Hi everyone,

I am using a Panasonic NV-GS180, which as you probably all know is a 3CCD camera and I'm very pleased with it, but would like to ask the following question please:

What sort of spec camera would I have to go to in order to notice any appreciable difference in picture quality as an end result? I'm not concerned with any other aspect of the camera, so I'm not interested in bells and whistles, just the picture quality. I'm also not interested in upgrading to HD either.

    Many thanks in advance,
    John.

Larger CCD, higher SNR, if jitter is a problem, maybe something that has some sort of weight on it so you can shoulder it.

I'm aware of that Eric, hence my question about how much better spec before I see the difference.

    Regards,
    John.

How much before you see? I don't know. I'd say any difference should be enough. Also check the sensors active pixels, as sometimes consumer cameras may subsample between pixels to produce a full frame rather than simply capturing the number of pixels that the digital format requires (720x480 for NTSC DV).
