Camera settings, timelapse and light levels

hi, ive shot a few timelapse movies using a digital stills camera but have chosen the location and conditions are such that the light levels remain fairly consistent.
I want to now do timelapse with the sunrising, but i was wondering how you manage the settings on the camera , ie what do you expose for? seeing i would be going from quite dark conditions to quite bright.

    many thanks

ps nice forum and website ! (i stumbled on it by accident !) : )

Has anyone done this? I would like to know more in detail about the process, especially the metering.
