    How to make foreground in focus, background out of focus

    I am wanting to shoot interviews where the interviewee is in focus but the background behind them is out of focus. Can anyone tell me how to achieve this simply using Canon GL1s?

    It's all about depth of field, i.e. the range of distances from your camera which are in focus. You want to reduce the depth of field so that only your subject is in focus and everything else is blurred.

    Short answer though....add shutter.
