    using stills

    I have taken on a project for a small web up start- and need to use still images- between clips

    I would like to use free stock images - I found a few web sites like this but am not sure if better ones are out there or if there are hidden rules about using such images in video and for profit?

    how "free"? there are not too many totally free sites out there and the ones that are there i have found to be not great quality. what type of images are you looking to use?

    http://commons.wikimedia.org/ can be worth a try. It's a bit sparse but it's free and sometimes you find a gem. It tends to have more "real life" or candid photography than some of the stock photo sites. Licensing options are shown with images - sometimes you need to include a credit if you use the photos.

    www.istockphoto.com is worth a try if you're looking for more commercial photography. It's not free (except the free weekly image) but it is very cheap.
