    So very quiet here

There's very little activity. Is the system working?

Dave - how's it going with you?

    Hi SC

I was wondering that myself. Even the spammers have stayed away!!!

However the forum does run much on it's own anyway ..I guess people might be busy planning for the Easter break?

    Hi Chris -
You're probably right - usually there's a posting at least once per day. However, it just seemed strange that there was nothing for several days....lol.

    Hi SC358

I'm a regular on the Pana3CCD forum and a week ago it was totally dead!!! It has now recovered BUT still reasonably quiet. During the end of last year they were getting over 2000 people (guests + members) on line at any one time but now seem to have just over 100 so it's not just this forum!!!

Sometimes you need to "jump start" topics and add a few of your own that will be answered ...sorta "This new camera has just been released... what do you think???" or something like "CCD's are better than CMOS" ..that will start some lively discussion!!

I'll post a couple and see what happens..maybe you can too???

    All-

been awhile. been busy with new house and trying to find a job.
It's so damn hard. got turned down by Comcast twice. no stations or production houses are hiring, and I only have a year and a half of experience out of collge. Really want to be an ENG guy. HELP!!!!!

The recession is hitting people hard ans jobs are getting hard to come by. Some stations will hire freelance cameramen especially if you have your own ENG gear so that's worth a look!!

Otherwise (provided you have a camera or two) keep up your skills doing other work like event videography. Weddings may be be as exciting as ENG news footage but it still keeps you in the groove and you can keep the bank balance up as well. Who knows there just could be a news team head amongst the wedding guests who will spot you and offer you a job.

Also the guys at Turn Here are always looking for cameramen to do their yellow pages shoots for business which is pretty much like ENG. Registration is free so put your name there and you might be surprised

    Thanks for the tip Chris

    Chris-
Thanks for the tip. Every little helps. I don't care what people say, I like doing weddings. I think they are fun. Just the fact that I'm getting paid to hold a video camera is cool enough for me. I just want to strive for bigger.
I will look into turn here, though . Thanks again

    Hang in there people.

This downturn of economy will last quite a while. Besides banks (which are still helped by the govnmts), production and manufacturing are first industry casualties. With the emergence of swine flu, the market seems to be still headed for a decline. Recession will 'bloom' to its fullest effect sometime end this year and the next, that is if things don't pick up.

    Good advice Nagar!!

It's actually quite frightening to see "icon" industries in Australia close down!!! Peter's Icecream (many years here considered an icon product) just shut their local factory to streamline their business putting 140 people out of work!!

As a self-employed person I always try to have a variety of "backup" income earners in different fields so I have something to turn to when things slow down. I was doing Real estate online videos here last year and was very busy too. Within a month of Christmas they totally dried up so you really do need to be prepared to be able to switch to something else.

Luckily for me, people get married even in a recession so my wedding video income is pretty secure. I'm almost full already for the new season first half (August - December) and have confirmed and paid bookings right up to November 2010!!

In a recession you do need to be very flexible and be prepared to move to a new vocation if your current one fails.

However we will all pull thru I'm sure!!!

    Hi Dan,
If you can't get in with the big boys, you may have to go to other playgrounds. Look around in post-houses, law firms, insurance companies, casinos(?) etc. You'll really have to look into the nooks and crannies where you don't usually look. It may not be ENG work - but another aspect of it. You'll really have to bide your time and gain other related experiences until YOUR opportunity pops up.

    Happy Hunting!
