    saving as gif with transparent background

    Can anyone tell me how to save an image with a transparent background as a gif. Photoshop will only allow me to save as psd or pdd.

    I haven't used photoshop for a long time, since free editors increasingly catch up on its functionality.
    I.e. Paint.NET, Gimp, Artweaver

    However i seam to remember that you need to use File:Export when you want to marge the layers into one file such as gif or png.

    Have you checked that the file is 256-color?

    Image > Mode > Indexed Color

    That shouldn't have any effect since Photoshop would automatically convert the file doing export, like so many other editors.
