converting 4:3 footage to fit widescreen without stretching

    hi there,
i'm trying to import a 4:3 clip on a widescreen project, but i don't seem to be able to interpret the clip to fit to widescreen without getting it stretched and therefore unusable. is there anything i can do to solve this problem? is there any other programme which would allow me to do so if this is not possible in premiere?
also, if i try to keep it as 4:3 premiere seem to struggle while playing the clip, making it all pixelated.
thank you in advance for your help

I guess you're trying to make the picture fill the whole screen in 16:9, i.e. magnifying the clip until the screen width is filled (and losing some of the top/bottom of the original picture). Is this right?

If so, how are you doing it? When I resize a 4:3 clip to fit a 16:9 project it seems to work fine. I just drag the edge of the clip in the monitor window.

Is you hardware up to spec? What version of Premiere are you using? It shouldn't really be struggling to play the 4:3 clip.
