Streaming Video Using Flash

As with most other internet video and audio formats, Flash provides two different ways to deliver AV media from a web page: Streaming and progressive download. Many people use these terms interchangeably but if you want to be correct, progressive downloading does not count as true streaming.

Streaming with FMS
To stream Flash video you need to use a special type of server application called Flash Media Server (FMS). This is the powerhouse option and will appeal to those with very demanding situations.

Progressive Download
This is a relatively simple method and only requires a standard website hosting service. Although it does have some limitations, it simulates true streaming reasonably well. This is the most realistic option for most websites.
