Adobe Premiere: Trash Preferences

Trashing the preferences is a technique used to help identify and solve a wide range of software issues. For example, if you find that your project files are becoming corrupt, you may find that trashing your prefs may fix the problem.

NOTE: This procedure will, of course, reset all your preferences to their defaults. You might like to make a note of your preference settings before you do this, so you can manually restore them afterwards.

Windows Instructions

  1. In My Computer, open your preferences folder: UserFolder > My Documents > Adobe > Premiere Pro
  2. You should see one or more folders with your current version number, e.g. 6.0
  3. Delete or move this folder.

Mac Instructions

  1. In Finder, open your preferences folder: UserFolder > Documents > Adobe > Premiere Pro
  2. You should see one or more folders with your current version number, e.g. 6.0
  3. Delete or move this folder.
