Windows 8

Microsoft Windows 8 was released in October 2012. Development had been in progress even before the release of Windows 7 in 2009.

The most obvious and significant change in Windows 8 was the new Metro interface designed to work with touchscreens and tablets. In effect there were now two different interfaces available—the traditional mouse-driven desktop and the new touch-driven Metro. Despite their respective designs, both interfaces can be used with either an input device (e.g. mouse) or touch.
